LEED Certification
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998. LEED is an effort to define a national standard for what constitutes “green building.” This third-party certification program developed by the encourages and promotes sustainable green building practices through the achievement of established tools and performance criteria. LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based model that is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. There are currently more than 14,000 projects in 50 U.S. states and 30 countries covering more than 3 billion square feet of development area.
